WCFR and VSP report a downed plane in emergency landing

Warren County Fire and Rescue (WCFR) with the Virginia State Police (VSP) report  responding to a small private aircraft emergency landing March 12.

The aircraft coming out of Parma Michigan was heading for Winchester when the pilot, Travis M. Berlin reported engine trouble at approximately 6,000 feet.

Berlin spotted the field in the Rivermont area of Warren County in the 1400 block of Steed Lane and managed to land the craft.

During descent the plane struck trees causing significant damage to the wings.

The 45-year-old Berlin had already managed to get out of the plane before fire and Emergency Medical personnel arrived.

Berlin was examined at the scene and refused transport to a hospital.

Emergency personnel remained on the scene for about an hour.

An email from VSP confirmed that the Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board have been notified and are continuing to investigate the incident.
