Wexton Calls for Northam’s Resignation

8 February 2019 Winchester Frederick County Clarke County News

10th District Congresswoman Jennifer Wexton released a joint statement with several other Virginia Congressional Democrats calling for the resignation of Governor Ralph Northam.

Released last night (2/7/2019), the statement was also signed by Senators Tim Kaine and Mark Warner7th District Congresswoman Abigail Spanberger, and other officials. The Congressional leaders said they were “brokenhearted that the actions of Governor Northam and Attorney General Herring have reopened old wounds left by Virginia’s long history of slavery, Jim Crow segregation, and systemic racism.”

While they called for the Governor’s resignation, they did say that Herring expressed remorse to each of them, and that he should continue his in-depth discussions with other officials in Virginia. The Congressional leaders also said that they were “deeply disturbed” by the allegations of sexual assault against Lt. Governor Justin Fairfax, stating that they “need to be taken very seriously.”
