Wilkins Lake Set for Anniversary Celebration

17 September 2019 Winchester Community News

September 17, 2019

In 1982 the Wilkins family of Winchester donated a large amount of money to the city to help break ground on a lake. In 1984 the construction was finished and Wilkins Lake opened in the City.

On September 19 Winchester Parks and Recreation will celebrate the 35th anniversary of the lake opening. The lake pier will play host to the celebration at 6 p.m.

“For the past 35 years, Wilkins Lake has provided the Winchester community with fishing recreation, a walking path and a beautiful place to sit and enjoy the outdoors,” Winchester Parks and Recreation Director Lynn Miller said. “We are grateful to the Wilkins family for their generosity and dedication to maintaining this unique and special amenity in Jim Barnett Park.”

The Wilkins family has continued to donate funds to support the lake and amenities around it, including the pier, walkway and streetlights.
