Winchester Council Approves Reduction of School Board
Winchester School Board Chairwoman Allyson Pate gave a presentation on the school board’s request to council in June 11, 2019. She said then that the board wants to continue with just seven members when both she and Richard Pell finish their second and final terms this year. While City Council’s 7-1 vote means that it has granted its permission for the reduction, the change would require changing the city charter, which means that it must be approved by the Virginia General Assembly. The assembly’s next session begins on January 8, 2020.
