Winchester Council Discusses Shrinking School Board

17 June 2019 Winchester News

Winchester’s City Council spoke during its meeting last week about whether or not the Winchester School Board should be reduced from nine members to seven.

The discussion followed a presentation from Winchester School Board Chairwoman Allyson Pate on the board’s request for the change. Pate said Tuesday (6/11/2019) that the board wants to continue with just seven members when both she and Richard Pell finish their second and final terms this year. The reduction would require permission from both the City Council and the Virginia General Assembly to change Winchester’s City Charter. Council forwarded the school board request to its June 25th business meeting with a 5-3 vote.
