Winchester Council Tables Senior Center Discussion

15 March 2019 Winchester News

In its meeting Tuesday (3/12/2019), Winchester City Council voted to table discussion on Chicago-based developer HDP’s proposed senior living center.

The 162-unit facility has been controversial in Winchester, with over 120 people signing a petition submitted in February against granting a conditional use permit for the project. At Tuesday night’s meeting, 19 people commented on the project in all, 6 speaking in support of it and 13 speaking against it.

During the meeting, HDP took the opportunity to point out that it has made compromises since concerns were first expressed, including the creation of a valet parking system and shuttle service, and scaling back the project by 8,000 square feet. Opponents, however, still cite concerns about parking shortfalls and the structure being aesthetically out of step with surrounding homes. Council voted 7-0 to table discussion until its next meeting on March 26, 2019.
