WFRD to Host Public Safety Chili Cook Off
October 5, 2019
WINCHESTER – The Winchester Fire and Rescue Department will host the 2019 Public Safety Chili Cook Off on Oct. 24 from noon to 2 p.m. The event will take place at the Rotary Shelter in Jim Barnett Park in Winchester.
The Chili Cook off is sponsored by the Winchester Fire and Rescue Foundation. The Chili Cook Off will be judged by both official judges and the public-at-large. Anyone who attends is free to tase and vote for their favorite chili from the Cook Off. Judging of the event will officially begin at noon. Winners will be announced by 1 p.m. Prizes include the Grand Kettle for first place, and medals for second and third place. The final award will be the People’s Choice award based on votes from the public in attendance.
“We’re very excited to host this event and we hope that our community members will come out to enjoy some great chili,” Winchester Fire and Rescue Chief William Garrett said in a press release. “Not only will they get to engage with our department, they’ll have the opportunity to support a great cause ahead of the Thanksgiving season.”
Five spaces in the Cook Off will be occupied by representatives from several of Winchester’s local services like the Police Department and EMS. The remaining five spots will be occupied by non-profit groups in the area. Non-profit groups that would like to be apart of the Cook Off can apply online.
WFRF will be onsite during the event to collect nonperishable food items to donate to the Highland Food Pantry. The goal is to collect over 100 pounds of food.
