Winchester, Front Royal Drinking Water Quality Awarded
Virginia’s Department of Health has recognized local municipalities for the quality of their drinking water.
Both Winchester and Front Royal received the office’s Gold Award for the quality of their water. Achieving the Gold Award means the water treatment plant in both localities met certain levels of turbidity, a measurement of water cloudiness, at least 95% of the time in tests taken in 15-minute intervals each day.
Each year, through Virginia’s Optimization Program, the VDH recognizes drinking water plants that perform above and beyond minimum standards, optimize their treatment processes, and run efficiently and effectively. This is Front Royal’s fourth consecutive year winning the Gold Award, and Winchester’s first, an improvement from the Silver Award it has received since 2012.
