The Mayor’s Excellence Award was created to recognize and honor individuals, businesses, groups, or organizations whose efforts exemplify Winchester’s thriving culture of community service, and commitment to addressing social needs in collaborative and creative ways. Nominations were submitted by Winchester residents for the 2019 Mayor’s Excellence Award.

Kogurt’s ability to inspire and motivate students even through challenging subjects is lauded by her peers. The Handley Interact Club is the largest student organization at JHHS with over 100 active members, providing students with community service opportunities benefitting the Winchester community. Kogurt has fostered a sense of leadership, selfless service, and personal growth in thousands of Winchester teens.
