The Winchester Police Department announced that speed cameras will be installed and utilized in city school zones.

Expect installation from late November through early December.

Specifically, the cameras will be at John Kerr Elementary, James Wood Middle and Daniel Morgan Middle Schools.

Flashing lights and signs will be in place near a school zone where cameras are in use.

Before this important safety measure goes into effect you should know some facts.

The cameras will actively enforce the speed limit on school days when classes are in session.

Enforcement will begin one hour before the start of school and continue until one hour after dismissal.

Citations will be issued when a vehicle exceeds 10 miles per hour over a school zone posted speed limit.

There will be at least a $100 fine for violators of the school zone speed limits which will be clearly marked.
