Valley Health’s Winchester Medical Center was recognized for the 12th consecutive year with an “A” Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group.
The acknowledgement places WMC in elite company nationwide and makes the institution one of just 11 in Virginia to maintain an “A” safety grade since the Spring of 2020.
President of WMC and COO of Valley Health Tonya Smith said, “We don’t take this recognition lightly; it’s a testament to the safety culture we’ve developed, the systems we’ve put in place to prevent patient harm, and the people who make it all possible.”
The Leapfrog Group is a nonprofit watchdog organization dedicated to improving healthcare quality and transparency.
The group’s Hospital Safety Grade rating system is the only system focused on how well hospitals prevent medical errors, injuries, accidents, and infection.
Over 3,000 general acute hospitals participate and are graded on over 30 different evidence based performance measures with scores updated twice a year.
In the Fall Grading period, Warren Memorial earned a B and Berkeley Medical Center finished with a C.
