Winchester Police Department (WPD) announced the implementation of new technology starting today.

The Winchester Emergency Communications Center has begun using new technology that allows callers to livestream to dispatchers.

The technology called Prepared Live gives eyes on scene capability to first responders.

When someone calls 911 they will be sent a link by text so the caller can voluntarily allow access to dispatchers to use their device’s camera.

The caller by activating the link will be able to livestream into the dispatch center.

The system also gives the caller the capability to upload a relevant picture or video that would assist with information on the incident.

The WPD and Emergency Communications Center is one of the first in Virginia to acquire this technology.

This will allow more data to become available to first responders in a faster fashion.

Erin Malloy the Director of the Emergency Communications Center calls the new technology a total gamechanger for first responders.
