WPD investigates shots fired in the city

Winchester Police Department’s (WPD) Captain Frank Myrtle confirms by email the investigation of shots fired in the city.

The WPD received several 911 calls reporting what appeared to be gunfire in the Roberts Street area close to 11 p.m. Jan. 17.

Officers began canvassing the neighbors in the area and located numerous shell casings but no obvious property damage.

It appeared that the shots were fired into the ground in the 1700 block of Roberts Street.

While Officers continued their investigation they heard what they suspected was gunfire in the 1700 block of Henry Avenue at approximately 12:09 a.m. Jan. 18.

Officers quickly responded to that area to find more shell casing but again no property damage was observed.

The investigation into to the two incidents remains open and anyone with any information is asked to contact the WPD at 540-662-4131.
