YDC to host virtual prom for high school seniors
The Youth Development Center (YDC) will be closed until further notice but is still offering virtual programs and events free of charge.
The YDC recently announced it will host a virtual prom for high school seniors via Zoom on May 16 from 8 p.m. until 10 p.m.
“It will never be the same as the real thing, but I’ve heard from so many young people who are excited to get glammed up and see their friends online, dancing in their living rooms” Executive Director of the YDC, LaTasha Do’zia, wrote in weekly newsletter. “Young people are vibrant and resilient, and we’re thrilled to support them!”
The YDC is also offering online basketball workouts, acting classes, creative play for toddlers, art classes, and a social group for LGBTQ+ youth. There’s even a Apple Blossom Paint & Sip online fundraiser for parents.
On Tuesday, May 5, YDC will be participating in #GivingTuesdayNow, a global day of giving and unity. The organization will talk about the free programming being offered during the COVID-19 crisis, how it supports young people and their families and plans for the future. If able, please make a donation to support the center’s work.
