Frederick County Sheriff Lenny Millholland confirmed by text the arrest of a Middletown Man following high-speed chase up Interstate 81.
On August 30 Frederick County Sheriff’s Deputies were called to the Sheetz store on Confidence Lane in Middletown.
The report indicated that a man was attempting to operate a vehicle under the influence of narcotics.
The suspect left the store and traveled up Interstate 81 northbound and was observed turning his headlights off while being pursued at better than 100 miles per hour at times.
The vehicle left 81 and turned onto Route 37 at Kernstown where it hit a road sign valued at over $10,000.
It was a short time later that the suspect crashed and he was taken into custody.
Clayburne Edward Steverson of Middletown reportedly admitted to using meth and a meth pipe was found in the vehicle.
In the crash Steverson appeared to suffer a traumatic brain injury and now requires 24-hour care.
The 46-year-old Steverson faces charges of assault and battery, eluding, grand larceny, possession of a controlled substance, and providing false identification to law enforcement.
As of the afternoon of August 31, Steverson was being held at the Northwestern Regional Adult Detention Center according to sheriff Lenny Millholland.
