Jefferson County West Virginia announced the implementation of two new services to enhance public safety and communications.
Text 911 is now available as another way to reach emergency dispatch.
Text 911 connects citizens directly to dispatchers through text messaging.
To start a text 911 conversation simply open a new text message and send it to 911.
Dispatch will respond and ask for your location, nature of the emergency, and additional information through text to send the appropriate help.
The service also offers multi-language text translation as well.
In addition to the new text service law enforcement in Jefferson County is offering what’s often called blue envelope service to the community.
These cards will identify with officers any communications difficulty that a person may have when in a traffic stop or any other communications with law enforcement.
The cards are now available at the Sheriff’s Office during business hours, 8 to 4:30 Monday through Friday.
