Due to recent rainfall Virginia’s Drought Monitoring Task Force  (VDMTF) recommends de-escalating the drought warning to a drought watch for 15 counties and 10 cities in the state.

Where most of the Shenandoah Valley is now in moderate drought conditions conservation is still recommended.

The drought warning, for instance, remains in effect in Clarke County.

Clarke County reports that two of the three groundwater monitoring wells are still well below normal.

The stream gages for Spout Run and Dry Marsh Run are extremely below normal and much below normal levels respectively.

As recent rain has prevented the drought from worsening private well users are encouraged to continue voluntary water conservation.
